A member asked:

My son has been on antibiotics for the last 2 days for strep throat, he is still running a fever and is showing symptoms of a cold, is this normal?

Possibly viral: If fever persisting while on abx and has been diagnosed with strep then he could have a viral illness like mononucleosis or some other viral illness, or possibly abx resistance. If fever persists one more day then follow-up with pediatrician to try to figure out cause of fever. If fever > 5 days then pediatrician needs to consider Kawasaki dz depending on the symptoms

Yes: Was the strep throat confirmed with a test? It is possible that it is just that a cold. However, if it is strep, the recommended course is Ten days, so as long as he is not worsening I would not be concerned.
