Rheumatology: A rheumatologist deals primarily with medical diseases affecting the connective tissues of the body. They may manage diseases involving soft tissues, muscles, tissue surrounding the joints, and autoimmune diseases. They do handle some diseases involving blood vessels, such as the vasculitides. I would see a primary care doctor first. He may refer you to a specialist. You may not need a surgeon.
