Soldiers returning: from combat who have been traumatized should be seen by a psychologist to work on the traumatic events. The VA offers services including EMDR which is highly successful at treating PTSD.

Can be effective: PTSD support groups at vet centers often can be very effective. Combat veterans talking with other combat veterans for many sufferers of combat PTSD is the best way to go, in addition to medication and individual therapy.

Post deployment..: ..adjustment depends on individual vulnerabilities, severity of trauma, and responses of those at home. Symptoms that require treatment should be addressed, and psychosocial functioning should be restored through support groups before beginning targeted PTSD treatment. Some soldiers will have a delayed reaction, so being connected early on to mental health support is vital. Hope this helps. Best
