Normal INR: INR of 1.0 is considered safe for surgical purposes. There may be more to your story than has been provided in the question.

Something's wrong: Hi. An INR of 1.0 or 1.1 is normal. You don't lower a normal INR for surgery. Do you mean 2.0 or 2.1? Are you taking warfarin? Reread your question, and see if you left out some vital information, or if your numbers are wrong. Let us know, and maybe we can help. Good luck!

That's interesting: INR is the international normalized ratio for prothrombin time which is measured in seconds. Prothrombin time is the time it takes for plasma (the liquid portion of your blood) to clot. INR was developed in order to correct for differences in PT measurements in different laboratories. The normal range for INR = 0.8 - 1.2.
