Abnormal structures: An odontoma is a benign tumour of odontogenic (of tooth forming) origin. A supernumerary bud is a tooth forming organ that is making an extra, or supernumerary tooth. Sometimes an odontoma can be confused with a supernumerry tooth.

Composite odontoma: Odontoma is any tumor of odontogenic origin. Compound composite odontoma bears some anatomical similarity to a normal tooth or supernumerary tooth bud.
