May be ok, may not..: I would want to know several things before being comfortable just monitoring this: 1) where is the odontoma - upper or lower jaw? 2) is it evident or is it only visible on an xray? 3) how was it diagnosed as an odotoma? Only after knowing the answers to these questions would i say if it's prudent to keep watching or get a referral to os for more accurate "risk" assessment.

Odontoma: When it doubt have it checked out. If your general dentist is unsure of the anomaly, it is always the best practice to refer to someone that could biopsy the lesion to be sure. While the oral surgeon can give an educated guess as to what it is, the only real way to know is to biopsy it and have an oral pathologist examine it microscopically.
