A member asked:

What is a cortisol stimulation test? what does it test for?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Adrenal insufficienc: Hi. A cortisol-stimulation test tests for adrenal insufficiency. There are several different cortisol-stim tests, which test different aspects of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Costyntropin-stim test tests for primary adrenal insufficiency. Insulin tolerance test and metyrapone also test for pituitary and hypothalamic insufficiency in the HPA axis. Good luck!
