A member asked:

What does it feel like when you have an icd fitted and it goes off? does it hurt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

ICD discharge: When you have an ICD in place and it discharges, it feels something like being punched in the chest. It isn't comfortable but there are lots worse pains. If the discharge is appropriate and is life saving, the discomfort is well worth it.
