Possibly: Laboratory studies show curcumin ( the active component in turmeric) has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. Animal studies show that turmeric lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. Turmeric retains its benefits even withe exposure to heat, unlike vitamins.

No: This stuff is serious, Brian. Don't trust your health to a flavoring / coloring agent. If lifestyle changes haven't managed your cholesterol -- and they often can't, as it's largely genetic -- be ready to accept meds. If it has to be "natural", there's a red yeast that contains a natural statin.

Turmeric: there is no scientific proof of the value of Tumeric in lowering cholesterol. Look up Mediterranean diet if you want a diet that can reduce risk for heart attack, stroke, and cardiac death.
