A member asked:

How bad is morning cortisol level of 40? endocronolgist isn't concerned, she said only concerned if it's low. i'm 31 yr old female the is very active

A doctor has provided 1 answer

High AM Cortisol: A morning cortisol level of 40 is elevated. It may not be "bad", but it is outside conventional range for morning cortisol. Stress can elevate cortisol, but this value is high. Either you are very stressed, or you have an ongoing secretion excess that requires evaluation, diagnosis, and management. More testing needed, such as 24 hr urine collection, suppresion testing, ACTH testing, & imaging
