No: Hi. No, low estrogen does not cause high AM cortisol. Estrogen stimulates cortisol binding globulin (CBG) and thus total cortisol (free cortisol remaining normal). Low estrogen would predictably cause lower cortisol. If CBG is constitutively elevated, total serum cortisol is elevated. An AM cortisol of 40 is quite abnormal. Does your doc suspect Cushing's? Do urine cortisol and dex suppression.
