See a doctor: Possible causes for shortness of breath include heart disease, lung disease and anemia. Each is treated differently, and oxygen may or may not be indicated. Best to see a doctor to determine the cause of the shortness of breath so it can be treated appropriately. Sudden shortness of breath should be evaluated immediately.

Depends...: May depend on your insurance company or hospital system. Where I trained, if a patient dropped to 88% SaO2 ambulating, they immediately qualified. Definitely worth asking your healthcare provider. A pulmonologist or cardiologist may be able to justify a tank with different criteria if you have underlying illness.

Need to measure oxyg: need to show oxygen saturation less than 88 %. Rest/exertion/ sleep. sob could be because of several reasons. Oxygen may make you feel better. But not the treatment and you will not qualify if oxygen saturation in >88%. Suggest you visit with a pulmonologist

Decreased Pulse Ox: One criteria is a decreased Pulse ox reading of less 88% or less as per Medicare standards. Discuss with your Doctor and get fully evaluated. They can have a respiratory company go out to your home and assess you for oxygen therapy. Best wishes.
