Teeth grinding: Teeth grinding and/or clenching (bruxism) is commonly a stress-related habit. At night you can wear a bite guard to protect your teeth and relieve the pressure on your jaw (TMJ). During the day you need to become aware of this habit and relax your jaw. Your teeth should only touch when you are chewing. Otherwise, "lips together and teeth apart". See a dentist who is experienced in treating bruxism

Many causes: Someone may grind their teeth for a number of reasons. Often, the problem occurs because the muscles of the face and jaw are trying to get the teeth in a comfortable position. The muscles may be in spasm, you may have a TMJ/TMD problem, stress, infection. Best to see a dentist ASAP. Often the cause is difficult to determine, so may have to treat the symptoms with a mouthpiece.

Good for you: Getting your occlusion optimized is one way to reduce bruxism; glad you're seeing an Orthodontic Specialist. Talk to your Physician about stress management, anti-anxiety medication. Take time every hour to just "chill out" for a few minutes. NSAIDs sometimes help take the edge off. You probably will need an occlusal orthotic (ask your Orthodontist) when your braces come off.

A few ideas: Niigh time - nightguard. See dentist. Daytime - you can control it. Be aware teeth should not touch at rest. I like Dr. Rubensteins idea "lips together, teeth apart."
