Possibly: Red and inflamed gums is an indication of gingivitis. This can lead to bone destruction if left untreated. I would contact your dentist or periodontist for an assessment

Yes: and it doesn't self heal. Absence of symptoms does not mean that the infection has magically cured itself. Gum disease goes hand-in-hand with bone loss. Don't wait, see Dentist immediately. Consultation with a Periodontist, a bone/gum specialist, is in order.
