???????: that is the million dollar question. however, people with genertic preparedness can develop psychosis under stresss. also certain meds and chemicals can increase the risk and at times precipitate psychosis. i.e. stimulants such as those used to treat ASHD, Cannabinoids increase the risk of psychosis by 700%... other street drugs may do so as well

Many causes: That are known, and then many more that are yet to be learned. Keep in mind also that psychosis is usually not permanent. Voices and other hallucinations come and go, for example. Take the example of psychosis due to drug use, is that a permanent psychosis? It depends on whether the person keeps on using the hallucinogenic drug.

Many possibilities: Depends on what specific symptoms. Paranoia, hallucinations, delusions? Drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine, even MJ or opiates. Can be associated with depression or other mental illness. Some medications esp steroids. Anything that effects the brain. There are many treatments. Talk to your doctor. Probably need to see psychiatrist
