Anything...: ...that damages the brain can potentially cause psychosis. Psychosis is when the brain/mind have lost touch with reality, and paranoia, delusions, hallucinations and disorganized thinking can occur. Common causes are chronic drug abuse, alcoholism, dementia and some psychiatric illnesses.
