What a1c level do i need to achieve and maintain to be taken off diabetes medication?

My bias is...: not to stop the meds that got you to have excellent control (except sulfonylureas, insulin) as, if continued, many have data or logical reasons for delaying or preventing diabetes from 'recurring'.
