Avoid extremes: When you fast, your body will begin to prepare for a famine by slowing your metabolism down and keep it down until food is available again. Small frequent meals also help you avoid large swings in your blood sugar levels that tend to make you so hungry that you end up pigging out and eating so fast you can eat enough for 3 meals before you realize that you are full.
