Muscle heavier: Muscle weighs more than fat, as you probably know. That is why exercise will put on weight while slimming you down. Instead of worrying about weight, which can change drastically with hydration as well, focus on your energy level and how your clothes fit you. If your pants are looser, it doesn't matter what the scale says. You want to look healthy and toned, not anorexic and sickly.

Strength Training: Don't recommend weighing yourself more than once a week - because there are often fluctuation related to fluids. Once you do start increasing muscle mass you may find that you are slimmer but weigh the same or even a little more. That is because by volume - muscle weighs more than fat. The more muscle you have - the more it drives your metabolic rate up. (:
