No: At this time, we do not treat children for hypercholesterolemia with medications. It is important to change her way of eating and perhaps to see a nutritionist. A level of 182 is not terribly high and should serve as a wake up call to increase exercise and watch out for high cholesterol laden food and a more healthy diet!

Yes, but...: 182 for total cholesterol is not horrible; first thing to try is diet and exercise. Meeting with a dietitian is often helpful. Only if the level was higher and not responding to lifestyle changes would I start cholesterol lowering drugs in children.
