A member asked:

I do not want prescription meds, but need to lower my cholesterol, what are the alternatives?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mostly dietary stuff: The following can help lower your cholesterol: 1.) red yeast rice (although it has a low dose of a prescription statin in it). 2.) plant stanols/sterols. I recommend 3 servings of benecol (plant stanols) dialy. It comes as a margarine or as a candy (available on amazon), 3.) high fiber diet 4.) low saturated and trans fats 5.) high monounsaturated fats (nuts, avacado, olive oil, etc).
