Severe Depression?: You need help! Isolation never work, it can actually be very dangerous in case of depression. I'm not sure why you felt humiliated in the hospital. Request to speak with a patient advocate, most hospitals have that option. I strongly recommend that you seek outpatient treatment, your PCP, Psychiatrist or counselor might be a good place to start. Go to ER or call 911 if suicidal.

What caused you to: be hospitalized? Hard to answer this question w/o knowing what ails you. Going AWOL for a medical condition that is now untreated could be dangerous. You might call your local crisis line and run this by them. They could help you figure out if you are at risk and point you to different sources of help--ones that might be more palatable.
