Other causes...: The rapid HIV test should be positive if you are HIV-infected if the test was done at least 3 months after your HIV exposure. You can have the test repeated 6 months after exposure to be most certain. There are other infections that can cause lymph node enlargement in the neck or head; many are viral and will resolve on their own. One common treatable cause is a fungal infection of the scalp.
