Tonsil stones: The white chunks you are describing sound like tonsil stones, which are formed when bacteria accumulate in the crypts of the tonsils. They are normal and do not require any particular treatment. If they bother you, they can be removed as you have been doing or flushed out of the tonsils with a syringe filled with water.

Tonsil issue: Pockets can form in tonsils called crypts. These pockets trap food and debris. The action of bacteria and enzymes in saliva turn the material white in color. Some complain of odor from them. Difficult to prevent. Some try gargling periodically. If painful, bleeding or swollen glands seek care.
