Possibly: If we could accurately predict the future it would be great, right? But we can't. Our bodies change over time, so your teeth may shift due to other factors, not relapse following orthodontic care. A retainer would help prevent movement. No guarantee your teeth will not move without one.

Othodontist decides: Your treating orthodontist is the best judge.Anytime patient makes decision against the doctor or dentist's advise, they may be taking chances. If your orthodontist recommends that you need to wear that retainer longer & you decide to get it out, & as a result if your teeth shift, you will be responsible,& not your orthodontist.

It is possible: Ask your orthodontist to provide invisible clear retainers that are worn while you sleep. It gets the job done and preserves your smile.

Probably: fixed lower retainers usually used when there is a strong relapse tendency. Best advice, go back to your treating Orthodontist for examination and advice, no two malocclusions are alike. If your Orthodontist felt you needed permanent retention there was a good reason.
