A member asked:

Does a yolk sac rule out complete molar pregnancy? i've read that a cmp was once ruled "early gestational age" on ultrasound. is this a typical mistake or does a yolk sac and 4 mm fetal pole generally rule out cmp?

Almost: It obviously depends on the resolution of the ultrasound, the skill/experience of the doctor/sonographer, and the gestational age for accuracy - but unequivocal findings of fetal pole and yolk sac should rule out mole 99%. Mole is usually first suspected with vaginal bleeding and unusually high hCG, not ultrasound.
