Your hemoglobin is below normal.: Depending on the extent of your surgery you will lose some blood during the surgery and if you was starting below normal this will leave you even further below normal after the surgery. In addition there is the risk of further bleeding is a complication after the surgery which is unusual but still possible. I would recommend that your hemoglobin be higher before undertaking elective surgery. If you have no other reason for the low hemoglobin it is probably related to blood loss from your menstruation and this can be easily corrected by taking iron pills. I would check with your surgeon and/or your family practitioner.
