Minimal prep: Typically, make sure your appointment is scheduled at a time other than your menses, try to avoid intercourse 2-3 days before your pap (in order to reduce the risk of cervical inflammation), and observe proper hygiene.

Preparing for Pap : Read http://womenshealth.About.Com/cs/papsmears/ht/preparepapsmear.Htm. The advice is logical and has you avoid intercourse, use of tampons, douches, foams and, schedule your appointment for about 2 weeks after your period ( reschedule if you start to bleed).
