HPV testing only tests for only HPV infection which is implicated in the long run in causing ca of cervix.

I attended my first cervical screening at age 25. They tested for HPV only which was negative. Because it was negative they did not look at cytology. Asked to come back in 5 years. Could they have missed cervical cancer by only testing HPV status?
