Advice: It would be better if you called your dentist or oral surgeon who are best qualified to advise you about your symptoms tonight and if it was deemed necessary an office appointment can be given for tomorrow. In the meantime continue the antibiotics and take Tylenol (acetaminophen).

Not necessarily: If a tooth breaks because it has a large cavity, antibiotics may be given to prevent spread of infection. May take up to 72 hours to be effective. But pills will NOT cure an infected tooth. You need hands-on Dental treatment. Make sure you're scheduled with your Dentist before you run out of the antibiotic. Also, talk to Dentist about pain relief.

Hard to say...: Are you being treated by a local dentist? If yes, please give them a call. If no, you need to call for an appointment. Broken teeth can result in major problems if not treated in a timely manner.

Broken tooth: antibiotics alone will not fix a broken tooth. Have you seen a dentist yet? Please see a dentist ASAP for treatment of your broken tooth. If you have seen a dentist, then let them know that you are still having pain and follow recommendations that will be given.

Finish your meds: It's hard to stop a snowball halfway down the hill. Sometimes you need to let it roll to the bottom before you can chip away at it and knock it down to size. Infections that have time to build up a presence are often the same. It may get worse before it gets better. It is not the fault of the medicine. But given an ample amount of time, they are proven to be effective. So give it a chance!

See you dentist asap: If your pain isn't getting better you might no be taking the right antibiotic or the infection requires a different antibiotic, dose or a procedure to correct the problem. Only after a proper exam and radiographs can that be determined. See your dentist as soon as possible.

Dental care needed!: Antibiotics are not the cure for a broken tooth. At best, they may temporarily calm down the pain. Even if the pain is completely eliminated, it will return if definitive treatment is not completed. A broken tooth hurts when the cavity or the fracture extends down to the nerve of the tooth. If this is the case, a root canal or extraction of the tooth must be completed to stop the pain for good!

Antibiotics: Too many people try to treat themselves and obviously do not have the proper training and equipment to determine the cause of their dental problems, nor what is the correct treatment. They think merely taking antibiotics for an infection is adequate, which is NOT the case. See a dentist asap for diagnosis and treatment.

Unsure: Not sure the events or actions in your case. I am assuming that you broke a tooth and were placed on antibiotics. Unsure whether abcess found by dentist. You can have a toothache from broken tooth without infection. Pain will continue until problem resolved. However antibiotics take a few days to control infection and pain. You still may have discomfort.

Other symptoms: Antibiotics usually take 2-3 days to begin showing the benefits. Your mouth may be trying to compensate and avoid the discomfort from the injured tooth. This can make muscles and ligaments do work they are not used to, making them sore. It could be the tooth but it rarely makes the whole mouth sore.

Tooth: Antibiotics take 48 hours to really start to have an effect so take them as directed by your doctor ; be sure to take the entire course of the drug and not just some of the drug.

Perhaps: Antibiotics work against infections. However, if your nerve is exposed or if the infection is intense, you might need different antibiotics and/or pain medication.

Need a diagnosis: A broken tooth can range from a small chip just needing to be smoothed off to a life threatening source of infection. Before deciding on any treatment (including taking antibiotics) you need to be evaluated and diagnosed by a dentist to figure out a treatment plan. Dental issues almost always require intervention and antibiotics are usually just a stop-gap measure on the pathway to definitive tx.

How bad is the break: did your dentist prescribe the antibiotics? It generally takes 24-48 hrs. for the antibiotics to begin to work. How bad is the break? If it is deep you will need a filling or possible root canal treatment

Antibiotics working?: This is a depends answer. We really need more information. Are these antibiotics ones that have not expired?? Were these antibiotics prescribed for this tooth infection? Most antibiotics are broad spectrum antibiotics, which means they fight most bacterias. Occasionally, some bacterias are resistant to some antibiotics; you should see your healthcare provider to see if you need to change them.

Infected?: Pain from a broken tooth can be because the nerve tissue is exposed , infected or it can be from exposure to air/ cold/ heat of the internal portion of the tooth, the dentine. If infected some antibiotics might not be effective. Have the tooth checked ASAP by your dentist for proper diagnosis and treatment planning.

Possibly: If you have pain in your whole mouth, and are taking antibiotics you should be re-examined by your dentist. Who prescribed the antibiotics?

Antibiotics: are used to treat infection. Please see a dentist so you can get proper diagnosis. If the nerve is already dying and the nerve is already exposed, antibiotics won't be as effective on the structures surrounding the tooth vs. within the tooth.

See dentist ASAP: See your dentist. Through a through radiographic and clinical examination, the dentist can address your problem. Antibiotics help mask the problem and it will get worse if it is not taken care of.

Treatment required: Antibiotics will not correct a broken tooth--they temporarily slow or stop the bacteria infecting the problem. You also need to treat the condition (whatever it is) so that your immune system can help you heal and maintain; you need sustainability.
