Risk factors: Your father has risk factors for stroke and heart disease, that are now being treated. However, possible damage to blood vessels (atherosclerosis, decreased compliance) has already occurred. Now is the time to continue reducing his risk factors with diet, exercise, & medications. He should continue following-up with his physician for monitoring. http://www.stroke.org/site/PageServer?pagename=RISK

Possibly: High blood pressure and high cholesterol are risk factors for many problems like heart attack and stroke. However, now that he has them under control his risk is much less. Please encourage him to get regular exercise (as recommended by his doctor), to eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and to not smoke. It is also important that he take his medications as prescribed.
