Yes, a lot: Genetic predisposition often is related to risk factors such as cholesterol levels, blood pressure control, etc. Periodic follow up with your dr ( who will be informed of your family history) and compliance with meds and recommendations will increase your chances to not have to go through the same things prematurely.

Stay healthy : Eat healthy( 4 fruits /day, 5veggies/day, 2red meats a week , watch carbs, 3 mild or dairy a day and whole grains), exercise aerobicly 20 min 3 x a week and weights as you like. Don't smoke! don't drink in excess . The rest is genetics. Good luck !
