A member asked:

Will removal of teeth make periodontitis disappear? one doctor told that it will still threaten implants, another told that bone will even regenerate.

Yes and no: Removing one or several affected teeth (with bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration) can generate bone in an extraction site but poor oral hygiene and other teeth remaining in mouth (as well as other factors) will determine if you still have periodontal disease.

End of perio: by definition when the teeth are all gone there is no perio. The Peri-implantitis is not exactly the same thing but the mechanism is similar. The best way to keep it away from implants is meticulous home care. Can also be supplemented with PerioStat (doxycycline) medications. the bone will fill in but never as much as was there originally.
