Diabetes tests: Hi. It's very easy to test for diabetes. 4 ways to test: fasting glucose, random (non-fasting) glucose, A1c, and oral glucose tolerance test. They all have their diagnostic criteria. To distinguish type 1 and type 2 comes down to checking for evidence of autoimmunity (type 1 autoantibodies) and clinical judgement, and is TOTALLY independent of diagnosing diabetes. Eat healthily, exercise regularly
