A member asked:

Mri confirmed recurrent/ residual stress fracture in rt distal femur (1st 9/18/13, 2nd 7/31/14). despite rest, still lots of pain. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: No, it's not normal. Bones usually take 6-8 weeks to heal. But healing can be slowed down by certain medications, smoking, among other things. A fracture that hasn't healed after 3 months is called a nonunion and may require surgery. You should see your orthopedic doctor for more specific treatment options about your case.
