Depends: Should see orthopedic physician for examination.. History of bilateral hip dysplasia if not corrected can cause degenerative changes about hip and can get referred pain. Physician can elect to have further imaging possibly bone scan. Soft tissue abnormalities can also cause symptoms.

Were u diagnosed w/ a distal femur stress fx? They are rare in your age group. Proximal( femoral neck) stress fx.'s are much more common in 35 yr. old runners. If you are having pain above your knee other diagnoses should be considered. See an orthopedic surgeon for exam and work-up if needed.

What is treatment for a contusion hair line fracture in your knee cap?

Dr. Vlad Gendelman

Depends on direction: This depends on the direction of fracture. If the fracture is horizontal, the knee has to be immobilized to prevent possible displacement of the fracture and disruption of the knee extensor mechanism. If the fracture is vertical, you don't have to do much. Just don't do anything that causes pain in the knee and try to prevent any further trauma for about 2-3 months.

Can epidural steroid injections for back pain cause bone deterioration?

Dr. Jeffrey Glaser
Pain Management 25 years experience
Yes, but rare: The biggest risk of the steroid with epidural steroid injections is getting a condition called avascular necrosis. This is a rare disorder that usually effects large joints such as the hip or knee and can lead to the need for replacement. It can occur even after one dose of steroid. It is prudent to limit your dosage of epidural steroids to no more than 3 times per year. Be aware of this risk.

??signs??: Kids capable of waking off an injury will, they are more interested in playing & seldom stop unless something really hurts. If no obvious deformity or discoloration of the skin, you might watch it for a while & place a cool compress to help the pain & reduce the swelling. Do this only if the kid can make a fist & extend it & roll the hand back & forth. If not, get it checked now.
