Astigmatism: Astigmatism is basically due to an irregularity in the curvature of the cornea or lens. If the lens has been removed during cataract surgery you can still get astigmatism from the cornea.

Astigmatism after CS: Clear cornea cataract surgery requires surgeons to cut the cornea to enter the eye. This induces at least 0.5 Diopters of astigmatism in most cases. Depending on how much astigmatism a pt had before surgery and it's axis, we can decrease astigmatism (and in some cases, induce more astigmatism.)
