Neural tube: defects such s spina bifida and cleft lip occur as the result of failure of closure of the embryonic neural tube. This occurs between the 21st and 28th day of pregnancy. One does not know they are pregnant until at least 14 days into the pregnancy. This does not allow much time to come off Topamax (topiramate). .
