Migraine headaches: Depending on the type of migraine and/or cause of the headaches you can discuss with your doctor the medications Propranolol and/or imitrex. I have seen those two medications work better than topamax (topiramate). Propranolol can prevent while Imitrex will alleviate the migraine while it is occurring.

Established Options: The medications that have been shown to prevent migraines include topamax, (topiramate) inderal, elavil, depakote, and most recently butterbur. There are other options that do not include medications such as proper hydration, adequate sleep, identification and avoidance of triggers, and stress reduction. Good luck and well wishes.
