Hb A1c: You know that you have diabetes and need to control your blood sugar. For monitoring the control of blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c is a better test than blood glucose. It is good to keep Hb A1c below 7.0

Infection can put glucose out of control. You may wish to redo the A1c test in 3-5 months. However, with a current reading of 5.8, you are doing very well. It would you to do regular exercise and you may start out with walking.
