A doctor has provided 1 answer

See your Doctor...: To be on Metformin, you need to be under a doctor's care as you will need labwork every 6 months. When you first start Metformin, you may have side effects such as diarrhea or nausea. For this reason, Metformin is often started at a very low dose such as 250mg twice a day. After 2 weeks to a month, the dose in increased to 500mg twice a day and after another month up to 1000mg twice a day.
