Depends: Are you talking about the effects of local anesthetic on your lower lip after a lower jaw restoration? If so, numbness with a swelling sensation could be normal for up to six hours after the procedure. Other wise true swelling is NOT normal after undergoing tooth restorations. Swelling is suggestive of either an abscess from a tooth or a hematoma from the injection site.

Look or feel?: Does it feel swollen, look swollen or both. If it looks OK, it should go away. If not sure, contact the doc who treated you.

Yes: Probably from the numbness from the a aesthetic agent used,or soreness at the site of injection. If persists call your dentist.

Lip biting is common: self-inflicted lip trauma is a complication of dental treatment involving local anesthesia. You can't feel that you are doing damage to the numb lip. Fortunately, it always heals up within a few days without complications. Take care.
