Depends what type of: exercising you are doing? High intensity, triathlon, marathon, or short burst, walking, running, sprinting? If you are a long, term high intensity runner, triathlon, you need to have more calories (carbs) before hand to not burn up (or consume) your muscles as fuel instead of the carbs. If you just do mild exercising (nothing long distance), it will be safer. Moderation is key!
