It is best for everyone (diabetic or not) to limit sweets, chocolates, and high carb/processed foods for the long run. Completely eliminating can be very difficult, and often times causes people to "fall off the bandwagon". It is recommended to eat a balanced diet, of whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and always combine fat, carbs and protein to help keep your blood sugar stable.

For now, you need to be on a diet that will allow you to have a slow progressive weight loss over a long period of time. You may not need to be off of sweets forever, but for now they are not your friend. If you’re unsure of your diet needs, ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist. Weight loss is very important in the setting. Good luck.
