Chalazion: Application of a warm compress to the chalazion may suffice for ED treatment; however, for definitive examination and treatment, the patient should be referred to an ophthalmologist. Antibiotics are usually unnecessary and more than often not only unhelpful but potentially dangerous.

Antibiotics wont hel: If a chalazion is present for more than 3-4 weeks it is unlikely to respond to antibiotics. combination topical agents such as maxitrol (dexamethasone neomycin and polymyxin) (which require a prescription) and include antibiotic/steriod components may be helpful during the first 3-4 weeks. warm compresses are also extremely helpful. beyond 1month i tend to surgically remove them. eric dessner md
