Dr added zyprexa to my antidepressants many months back. still depressed. would replaceing zyprexa w abilify (aripiprazole) b better, and how are they different?

Different: they are fairly different. abilify (aripiprazole) is indicated for augmenting antidepressants; its less sedation; has less weight gain; and less impact on lipids & sugar. abilify (aripiprazole) modulates receptor activity instead of completely blocking it - therefore it tends to have fewer side effects. that said, zyprexa can be extremely helpful despite its side effect burden.

Depression: If you are not comfortable or unsure about the medication your Doctor prescribed then it is advisable to get a second opinion from a Psychiatrist after you have had a complete physical exam by your Primary Care Physician to rule out any underlying illness. A Clinical Psychologist can also help you with psychotherapy.
