Microtears: People who begin new exercise programs or increase intensity or length of their programs are prone to such cramps thought to be due to microtears in muscles. Best to slow down to the point where you don't experience cramps for a longer time before pushing yourself more to avoid injury. Sometimes people have cramps due to abnormal concentrations of potassium, calcium, and sodium. Doc can check.
