It happens...: Not sure if you had pain before root canal therapy was started.. your post did not say. Your post also did not say if you are taking antibiotics or anti-inflammatory meds. Without this info, it's tough to advise you on anything other than calling your dentist for a re-evaluation.

Normal: Yes Joyce. Throbbing is inflammation. The tissue that surrounds the tooth gets inflammed from the procedure , much like a cuticle that gets nipped during a manicure. Inflammation takes about 48 hours to peak so it should start to subside shortly. Try ibuprofen 800 mgs. That's the equivalent of prescription strength Motrin. It's 4 Advil pills. If it persists past a week, or swel see your dentis

Be patient: This may last 7-10 days. If the throbbing pain does not eventually resolve, this may indicate a root canal complication and visit to your dentist is warranted. Good luck!
