Need etiology: Obviously it would be helpful to know the cause for the pain if your pain is from a meniscal tear and you are active, neither therapy nor acupuncture will eradicate the cause for you pain if the problem is something minor, the usual treatment of ice, nsaids, rest, therapy will likely decrease the pain. Overall , it is always helpful to know the underlying problem to cure it.

Input: I agree with dr. Sider that it is important to know the cause of the knee pain. Please see your physician, sports medicine dr. Or orthopedic surgeon. They can tell you if surgical repair is required. Although acupuncture will not repair a condition that requires surgery, it can often expedite healing after surgery (with surgeon's blessing) & help with healing of both chronic & acute injuries.
