Several possibile: You may have referred pain from you lower back that progressed and the acupuncture was coincidental. It is unusually of acupuncture to make it worse unless they did it wrong. I advise you to seek medical evaluation.

Agree w Dr Coles: There are 3 outcomes with pain treatments from acupuncture. 1- pain improves & 2- pain worsens. These are both GOOD outcomes. If pain increases - it should dissipate within 1 to 3 days. This means that the acupuncture is effecting a change.
